What is it with you Food?

I'd like to dedicate this entire month of January recalling some stories of my 2016. So how about food? Let's take a peek at some of my favorites last year.

Didi's. much about their best selling pizza, I keep coming back to Didi's because of my all time favorite "sizzling sisig". This has been my favorite since then (years ago when I was still living and working in Angeles City). It looks like that I haven't found anything close to its texture and taste even if I've been to anywhere in the Philippines. True enough, they stand by their province's pride of being the Culinary Capital of the Philippines.

Vikings. can't forget the savory dumplings at the chinese station and there's the blueberry cheesecake and some more cheesecakes...and the rest is history. A good place to celebrate your birthday as you'll get a free personalized mini cake with their dancing staff to celebrate your birth month.

100g Burgers. discovered this place with my bestfriend out of curiosity and has became one of our favorite places to dine. Each burger that we've tried here is definitely worth the value for money. 100g is just right at the corner of Estrella Street in Bangkal, Makati.

Llaollao. because I simply love yogurt (frozen or not). When I learned that they're going to open a shop in Glorietta, I was all excited to try it.

Angel's Pizza. just along the lively street of Makati Avenue, you can easily spot one of Angel's pizza branches. There's no question as to how great their pizza plus the other food in their menu.

Dairy Queen. my only favorite is DQ's mango cheesecake ice cream but I'm sure that all the other flavors are also tonguewhipping? Is there such a word?

P.S I have not gained the extra pounds from all of those food trips. Good thing that I have someone (the bestfriend) who's always ready to finish my food if we're together and of course only when he's up for it.

Of Bulalo and Bullchef

Are you looking for the best bulalo in Pasig? Then head over to Bullchef in Kapitolyo. A lot of food bloggers discovered this blossoming food business in the said area. I also got curious about it after I've seen a program on TV about food tripping in Kapitolyo. I heard as well that even a few celebrities already visited this food hotspot.

It was after swimming at Ace Water Spa that my friends and I went to Bullchef. I suggested to have our lunch there as it’s one of the closest to go to from Ace Water. We’re all very hungry after spending almost 4 hours at the spa.
We’re lucky that there are still vacant tables even if it’s lunch time. The place has dining area on the first and second floors. The wall paintings including the guest signatures and names made the restaurant unique with a friendly vibe. As expected, they displayed the photos of those celebrities who has visited and tried their special bowl of bulalo.

I like how they named their dishes in the menu. There’s F na F for fish and fries, Burger habang may Gulay if you want to have burger with vegetable patties, Bang-Bang into the Bull for daing na bangus set meal, Estapa, Tapa Don’t Preach, Tapa ko Mahal Ko and Tapang-Tapangan for tapa lovers and many more.

Aside from bulalo, we also ordered a dish that really caught my attention. It’s called Sisig na may Nacho pa!-a plate of bulalo sisig, nachos, shredded lettuce, onions, cheese and dressings which is good as starter or appetizer.

Then there comes one of their many signature dishes. The Ultimate Bullchef Special- classic bulalo with meat and ligament, corn cob, pechay baguio, baguio beans, of course the bone marrow served in hot bulalo soup. Right there and then I know why it became popular. The taste is one of the best plus they have a generous serving. Just when I thought that nothing beats Tagaytay for bulalo then I’m glad I found Bullchef.

Happy 5 long years anniversary to this page. I promise to be more expressive and relevant in my future stories and of course to discover more places.

15th Kumbira Celebration

I am always a fan of cooking demos as yes I can call myself a frustrated chef.  I was walking around Limketkai Center last August 19 before the city fiesta and I had the chance to see the magnificent displays at the Atrium. I learned it was the last day of the 15th Kumbira Celebration- a culinary show and live competitions. Good thing I bought my camera that time so I took some photos of the great displays.

The Artistic Bread Showpiece designs (above photos) are those that depict objects or landscape that identifies Fiesta. While the Creative Cake Decorations ( photos below) aim to show the creativity, aesthetic balance and versatility that can go into decorating a cake.

Batu Ferringhi cafes

Just want to share with you some of the yummy meals that we had at Batu Ferringhi, Penang. We both love and happy to eat any type of dishes. However, I'm not into Indian food (peace to all Indian food lovers) unlike my partner and I really don't know why. Maybe from where I came from, I'm not used to the taste of anything with red or yellow color in my plate.

First stop is at Enca Cafe. I'd never forget this eating place that we found just across the Bayview Beach hotel Penang. They served a very delicious ginger tea which can be partnered with just anything from pizza to rice meals.

How's that for my lunch?

JD's plate-fried rice mixed with chicken tikka masala and veggies

Then, there's the Hard Rock Cafe beside the Hard Rock hotel. It is best to go there during the night to listen to a live band while savouring their yummy and huge burger. I'm not fond of burger but this is one for the books!

They said burgers are unhealthy, so we had some green salads too!

A perfect dessert at hard rock..
a breakfast appetizer at hard rock hotel.. We can't help but tried all of them. lol!

I am glad I took all of these photos. Really the best thing about going to other places is to explore and of course to eat and eat a lot!

Food trip around South East Asia

When we talked about travel it's not only about alluring places and warm people. There is really more when we get to a certain destination. Of course if you are a traveler, you also love to taste different or exotic food. Just want to share our encounter with the best and popular dishes around the 4 South East Asian countries that we've visitied mainly in Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia and the Philippines.

We had lunch at Bayview beach hotel (photo above) in Penang. 'Twas the first time that I've tasted chicken satay though this is also a popular street food in Singapore. It's a skewer cubes of marinated chicken roasted on barbeque. It is best to have satay with the peanut sauce. Really different!

I'd never forget this sizzling plate at Long beach hawker center in Batu Ferringhi, Pulau Penang. A sizzling plate of shrimp, sutong (squid), veggies, thin noodles, egg and mushrooms. We always had this almost every dinner during our stay in the island. A must try!

Hmmm.. really look so tasty! We had this dish in one of the hawker centres in the lion city. Well, I guess we just love to eat at the hawker centres whenever we're in Malaysia or Singapore. Above photo is a deer meat dish with veggies.

Kopitiam! true Singapore taste. Some more deer meat dish but this time at Lau Pa Sat hawker centre.

Don't forget to have a drink or two at Raffles Long bar, still in Singapore. They said that the Singapore sling is best here plus you can have unlimited peanuts in your table. A place in SG where you can literally litter.

I can't really believe that I'd get the chance to taste a Khmer dish. This was during our visit in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This may look like a very simple dish but the sauces tasted really spicy and different.

Three of the best tasting donuts at Big Apple donuts in Melaka. the 'alien' (one with choco curls on top) is my favorite while my partner love the 'alpine' (middle).  Just perfect for snacking!

The satay and kebab in a bamboo hut resto in Melaka. They also serve a delicious strawberry shake.

One of the best seafood platter that we had in Langkawi Telaga harbour park. How's that for dinner?

No Problem-a seafood place in Mactan, Cebu Philippines offers the best of SuTuKil dishes.

Though Cebu is best known for their lechon or roast pig,  I would still prefer Golden Cowrie's Crispy Pata and I can't wait to try it again.
